What we collect about you, why, who handles it, how long we keep it, and how to change your mind. We collect what we need to run your account and answer you, and nothing to advertise to you.
1. Who we are
[Legal name of the operator], [Registered address] (registration [Company registration number]), runs Argonautics and is the controller of the personal data described here.
For anything about your data, write to us through our contact form, or from the Support page of your dashboard if you have an account.
2. What we collect
- Account: your email address, and your name and profile photo if you sign in with Google. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication; we never see them.
- Profile: what you add on the Account page: name, company, job title, phone and country.
- Your use of the product: your plan, the company account you belong to, the vessels on your watchlist, and your settings.
- Support requests: what you write, its type, the dashboard page you sent it from, and when.
- Messages: what you send through the contact form (name, email, company, message) and email you send us.
- Newsletter: your email address and when you confirmed it.
- Technical data: our hosting providers log requests (IP address, browser, time) to run and protect the service.
We do not use advertising or analytics trackers, and we do not sell personal data.
Ship data. Our product is built from ship position reports (AIS) and ship registers: ship names, identifiers, positions and particulars. It describes ships, not people, and we do not collect data about crews.
3. Why we use it, and on what basis
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR art. 6) |
|---|---|
| Your account, the dashboard, your plan and its features | Contract |
| Answering support requests and messages | Contract, or our legitimate interest in replying to people who write to us |
| Account emails: welcome, plan changes, ticket confirmations | Contract |
| Invoices and the records the law requires us to keep | Legal obligation |
| Keeping the service secure and preventing abuse | Legitimate interest |
| Improving the product from support requests and feedback | Legitimate interest |
| The newsletter | Consent, which you can withdraw with the link in every issue |
4. Who sees it
Our team, to run the service and support you. People on the same company account see each other’s membership of that account, not each other’s profiles.
We share personal data only with the processors in §6, who handle it for us under contract, and with authorities when the law requires it. If Argonautics is ever sold or merged, the data would pass to the new owner under this policy, and we would tell you first.
5. How long we keep it
- Account and profile: while you have an account; deleted within 30 days of you asking us to close it.
- Support requests: 3 years after they are closed, to follow up and to measure our response times; then deleted.
- Contact messages and email: up to 2 years after the last exchange.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Invoices: as long as tax law requires.
- Hosting logs: as long as each provider keeps them, typically up to 30 days.
6. Processors and transfers
| Processor | What it does for us | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase and Google Cloud | Sign-in (Firebase Authentication), the account database (Cloud Firestore) and hosting of this site (App Hosting, region europe-west4, the Netherlands). | EU hosting; Google LLC is in the US |
| Resend | Sending and receiving our email: account and support emails, newsletter confirmations, messages sent through the contact form. | Sending region EU (Ireland); Resend, Inc. is in the US |
| Railway | Hosting of our data backend and internal tools, which read account details to manage plans and answer support requests. | Railway Corporation is in the US |
Our hosting is in the EU, but these companies are based in the United States and may access data from there. Such transfers rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the company is certified, and otherwise on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. Your rights
You may ask us to:
- give you a copy of your personal data, or send it to you in a portable format;
- correct it (most of it you can change yourself on the Account page);
- delete it, or limit what we do with it;
- stop using it where we rely on legitimate interest;
- withdraw consent you gave, such as for the newsletter.
Ask through our contact form or the Support page. We answer within one month and may need to confirm it is you. You may also complain to your data protection authority, though we would like the chance to put things right first.
8. Cookies and browser storage
We only store what the site needs to work and what you chose yourself. None of it tracks you across other sites, and nothing is shared with advertisers.

9. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by our providers. Access to account data is limited to signed-in staff, and our database rules let each user read only their own records.
10. Children
Argonautics is a business service and not meant for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect their data.
11. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your data in a significant way, we email account holders before it applies.
