Terms of Service

Last updated 18 October 2026

The rules for using Argonautics, written to be read. The short version: our figures are estimates with a confidence score, use them for your own business, and do not resell them without an agreement.

1. The agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and [Legal name of the operator] (“Argonautics”, “we”, “us”) about your use of argonautics.app, the dashboard, our emails and any data we deliver (together, the “Service”).

By creating an account or using the Service you accept these terms. If you use it for a company, you accept them for that company and confirm you may do so; “you” then means the company too. A separate signed agreement or order form, where we have one with you, takes precedence over these terms where the two differ.

The Service is for business use. You must be at least 18 to create an account.

2. What the Service is

Argonautics turns ship position reports (AIS) and public ship registers into port and vessel signals for the North Sea, Baltic, English Channel and Irish Sea: congestion, waiting times, turnaround, arrivals, laden or ballast state and open tonnage, each published with a confidence score.

We improve the Service continuously, so features, ports, signals and methods change. We describe significant changes in the changelog. We may add, change or remove features. If we remove something central to your paid plan, we tell you first, and you may cancel and get back what you paid for the rest of the period.

3. Your account

  • Give accurate details and keep them current.
  • Keep your sign-in to yourself. Each person needs their own account; a company account with several users is part of the Enterprise plan.
  • You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.

4. Plans, prices and payment

The Free plan costs nothing. Paid plans, their prices and what they include are shown on the pricing page and, for you, in your order form or invoice. Prices are per company and exclude VAT and other taxes, which are added where they apply.

Paid plans are invoiced by us directly for now, monthly or yearly in advance, and are due within 14 days of the invoice unless your order says otherwise. If an invoice stays unpaid after a reminder, we may move the account to the Free plan until it is paid.

We may change prices for future billing periods. We tell you at least 30 days before a new price applies to you, and you may cancel before then.

5. The data and its limits

Our figures are estimates. AIS is reported by the ships themselves: draughts and destinations are typed in by crews and are often stale or wrong, some ships switch AIS off, and our coverage comes from shore-based receivers that do not reach everywhere. Every figure carries a confidence score for that reason, and our documentation explains how they are made.

The Service is not for navigation, collision avoidance or any safety-of-life purpose, and it is not investment, trading or legal advice. Check what matters before you act on it. We provide the data “as is”, without a promise that it is complete, accurate or up to date.

6. How you may use the data

While your account is active, we give you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service and the data it shows for your own internal business purposes, within the limits of your plan.

You may not, unless we agree in writing (for example in an Enterprise data-feed agreement):

  • sell, license, publish or pass on the data, in whole or in a substantial part, or use it to build a product that competes with the Service;
  • scrape, bulk-download or harvest the Service by automated means other than the exports and API your plan includes;
  • get around plan limits, share an account, or access parts of the Service you are not given;
  • reverse engineer the Service, or test its security without our written permission;
  • use it unlawfully, or to harass, track or harm people.

You may quote individual figures in your own reports, presentations and messages if you name Argonautics as the source. Some data comes from third parties that require a credit; where it does, we show it next to the data, and you keep it when you reuse that data.

7. Captain, the AI assistant

Captain is not available yet. When it is, its answers will be generated by AI from our data and can be wrong or incomplete: treat them as a starting point, and check anything you rely on against the figures and their confidence scores.

8. What you send us

Your watchlist, settings and the messages you send us stay yours. You let us store and use them to run the Service and support you.

If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them to improve the Service without owing you anything for it.

9. Our rights

The Service, its software, design, methods and the datasets we build (port areas, port calls, signals, the vessel database) belong to us or our licensors. These terms give you only the right of use in §6.

10. Availability and support

We work to keep the Service available and the data flowing, but we depend on third-party data feeds and hosting, and we do not promise uninterrupted availability unless we agree a service level with you in writing. We may pause the Service for maintenance, preferably when it disturbs least.

Signed-in users can reach us from the Support page of the dashboard; everyone else through our contact form. We usually reply within a working day.

11. Ending the agreement

You may stop using the Service at any time, and ask us to delete your account. A paid plan runs to the end of the period you paid for; we do not refund part periods unless the law or your order requires it.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts the Service or others at risk, or stays unpaid, and we tell you why unless the law or safety prevents it. We may also end the Free plan or the Service as a whole with 30 days’ notice, refunding any period you paid for and will not receive.

12. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Otherwise, to the extent the law allows:

  • neither of us is liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost profits, revenue, business or data;
  • our total liability for everything arising from the Service in any 12 months is limited to what you paid us for it in those 12 months, or €100 if that is more.

If you are a consumer, you keep the rights the law gives you, and these limits apply only as far as that law permits.

13. Claims caused by your use

If someone brings a claim against us because you used the Service in breach of §6, you cover our reasonable costs of that claim.

14. Privacy

How we handle personal data is set out in our Privacy Policy.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the current version. For a change that matters to you, we email account holders at least 30 days before it applies to them; using the Service after that date means accepting it. If you do not accept it, you may end the agreement before then (§11).

16. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of [country], and the courts of [city, country] settle any dispute, unless the law where you live as a consumer gives you the right to bring it there.

17. Contact
